Texas State Comptrollers’ office conducts routine Sales and Use Tax compliance audits of businesses. Over the last couple of years there has been an increase in the number of such audits.
The State has also launched a program under which it has contracted outside firms (CPAs, Tax Consulting firms) to conduct audits on its behalf, which has further increased the probability of a business being audited. In our experience, over 60% of such audits result in a deficiency assessment.
Our Firm is actively engaged in all areas related to Sales and Use Tax audits. We routinely represent our clients in their audits and have been successful in limiting the ensuing liability to a minimum. Over the years we have gained sufficient expertise that has enabled us to protect the interests of our clients effectively.
We have also been one of the Contracting firms employed by the State Comptroller to conduct Sales Tax audits on its behalf. Our Sales Tax Division employees are fully trained in State Audit procedures and policies. We are therefore able to evaluate our Client’s situation from the State Auditors perspective as well.
